3-Day Expedition: The Mini Gobi & Imperial Echoes

A Journey Through Sand Dunes, Ancient Monasteries, and Wild Steppes

$950.00

This curated 3-day journey is designed for those who wish to experience the diverse landscapes of Mongolia—from the golden dunes of the "Mini Gobi" to the spiritual silence of the oldest Buddhist monasteries—without the need for domestic flights.

Day 1: The Golden Dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai

Your journey begins with a scenic drive west from Ulaanbaatar. As the cityscape fades, the vast open steppe takes over. We head toward Elsen Tasarkhai, unique for its "Mini Gobi" sand dunes that stretch for 80km, surrounded by mountains and green meadows.

  • The Experience: Upon arrival, we will settle into a premium Ger camp. In the late afternoon, we will mount Bactrian (two-humped) camels for a trek through the dunes.

  • Photography Highlight: Capturing the "Golden Hour" as the low sun casts long shadows over the rippling sand. The contrast between the desert dunes and the rocky Khogno Khan mountains provides a dramatic backdrop.

  • Stay: Boutique Ger Camp near the dunes.

  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner.

Day 2: The Cradle of History – Kharkhorin & Erdene Zuu

After a sunrise shoot on the dunes, we continue our drive to Kharkhorin, the 13th-century capital of the Mongol Empire.

  • The Experience: We will visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, built from the ruins of the ancient capital. We will wander through its 108 stupas and witness the morning chanting of the monks—a deeply spiritual and photogenic experience.

  • Afternoon: Visit the Kharkhorin Museum to understand the legacy of Genghis Khan and the Silk Road. Later, we’ll drive to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Orkhon River Valley.

  • Stay: Luxury Ger Camp in Kharkhorin.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 3: The Wild Takhi & Return to the Capital

On our final day, we head back toward Ulaanbaatar with a vital stop at Khustain Nuruu National Park, home to the world’s last truly wild horses.

  • The Experience: Under the guidance of local rangers, we will track the Takhi (Przewalski’s horses). These stocky, majestic animals are best seen as they come down from the ridges to the water points in the late afternoon.

  • Final Reflections: After a final nomadic-style lunch in the wild, we will complete the drive back to Ulaanbaatar, arriving by early evening.

  • Meals: Breakfast & Lunch.
